FAQ - 💬

❓ What is HAVRIX used for?

👉 HAVRIX is a vaccine used to prevent hepatitis A infection. The vaccine works by causing the body to produce its own protection (antibodies) against this disease. Hepatitis A is an infectious disease, which can affect the liver.

❓ How many doses of HAVRIX do you need?

👉 2.3 Recommended Dose and Schedule Primary immunization for adults consists of a single 1-mL dose and a 1-mL booster dose administered anytime between 6 and 12 months later. In adults, the injection should be given in the deltoid region.

❓ What type of vaccine is HAVRIX?

👉 HAVRIX (Hepatitis A Vaccine) is a sterile suspension of inactivated virus for intramuscular administration. The virus (strain HM175) is propagated in MRC-5 human diploid cells. After removal of the cell culture medium, the cells are lysed to form a suspension.

❓ How often is HAVRIX given?

👉 However, outbreaks of hepatitis A among unvaccinated people still happen. Children need 2 doses of hepatitis A vaccine: First dose: 12 through 23 months of age. Second dose: at least 6 months after the first dose.

❓ How long is HAVRIX effective?

👉 It is not known for how long protection from one hepatitis A vaccine dose lasts, but it has been shown to last for at least 10 years (29).

❓ How long does a Hep A vaccine last for?

👉 How long does hepatitis A vaccine protect you? Estimates for long-term protection for fully vac- cinated people (i.e., full two-dose series) suggest that protection from hepatitis A virus infection could last for at least 25 years in adults and at least 14–20 years in children.

❓ Do adults need 2 doses of Hep A vaccine?

👉 For long-term immunity, the HepA vaccination series should be completed with a second dose at least 6 months after the first dose. However, the second dose is not necessary for PEP. A second dose should not be administered sooner than 6 calendar months after the first dose, regardless of HAV exposure risk.

❓ How do you give the HAVRIX vaccine?

👉 HAVRIX will be injected into the upper arm muscle in adults and older children, and into the thigh muscle in infants. For some people with bleeding problems, the dose may need to be given under the skin (subcutaneously). The vaccine should never be given intravenously.

❓ How effective is HAVRIX vaccine?

👉 These vaccines are highly immunogenic and are more than 95% effective in preventing hepatitis A infection when given as a two-dose series to children or adults. Hepatitis A vaccine also can provide protection after exposure and can be useful in controlling hepatitis A outbreaks in well-defined populations.

❓ Does Hep A need a booster?

👉 No. Immunoglobulin G antibodies to the hepatitis A virus, which appear early in the course of infection, provide lifelong protection against the disease (5).

❓ Is it OK to get hepatitis A vaccine twice?

👉 Is it harmful to have an extra dose of hepatitis A vaccine or to repeat the entire hepatitis A vaccine series? No, getting extra doses of hepatitis A vaccine is not harmful.
